Hi my name is Norm Bettencourt I am a passionate self defense instructor who every day is pumped to get up and try to find new effective and practical solutions to self defense. Why am I so passionate? Well there were two incidents of significant nature that guided me in this direction.
The first was when I was 16 years old I had a friend who was raped and murdered found with a plastic bag over her head discarded like a piece of garbage in the middle of nowhere. I can’t imagine the fear, panic and helplessness she must have felt in the last moments of her short life. I sat at her funeral feeling sadness, hurt, shock, and anger. I believe no one deserves this kind of treatment not even an animal.
Then a few years later I was humiliated to find out that my many years of training in different martial arts and having a Black Belt didn’t protect me. When one night I was forced to put those skills to the test and learned that what I knew was not meant for the streets only for the dojo or in a sport oriented situations.
From those two incidents I made it my goal to find tactics that would work for me and not against me. I began studying and researching different tactics of combat used by military personnel, street fighters and prison inmates.
I began researching and consulting with doctors regarding anatomic weak points of the human body and the psychological responses the adrenaline dump plays on the human body. I interviewed both perpetrators and people who survived or were victims of violence. I also later incorporated my fifteen years of experience dealing with violence working in the security industry in areas such as night club bouncing, restraint work and body guarding.
Through years of trial and error by putting these principles, concepts and tactics to the ultimate test in real life violent encounters that I myself found myself in working in the security industry. I created a self defense system based and created around natural, instinctive and primal movements that human beings have during threatening situations and combat.
I have gone on to appear on different television shows and publications explaining my self defense principles, concepts and ideas that are simple, effective, similar in movement from one another and yet easy to remember during times of fear and chaos.
Here are just a few shows and publications I have been on…
Responses To A Threat
What I teach is unconventional and outside the box and as far from traditional that you can think of. Why? Because I have known individuals that were victims of violence who had self defense training under their belt one I even knew was a martial arts/self defense instructor.
So what went wrong? Why didn’t the skills that they practiced protect them?
When I created my women’s self defense program called the S.H.E System as mentioned previously I interviewed both victims and survivors of violence to get inside their heads, to find out what they did that helped or hindered their self defense situation.
secrets that were revealed to me.
Less is more when it comes to self defense. If you learn multiple techniques on how to disarm someone with a knife and the day comes when you are threatened with a knife your brain will automatically go through all the knife disarming techniques which you have learned. In those mille seconds your brain will try to figure out which technique is best to use in that given situation increasing your reaction time exponentially.
As well your brain will confuse and distort the information due to the affects of adrenaline and you will not know what to do. This in turn places you in the flight/freeze response. You basically are frozen in fear not knowing what to do making yourself defenseless.
Woman who survived violence just focused on one or two “specialized” tactics and that was it. They were able to react quickly without any confusion knowing exactly what they had to do to escape the situation.
Self defense is 90% mental and only 10% physical. You must be able to control fear when you are in a self defense situation. Victims of violence were frozen in fear, while survivors possessed the “killer instinct mindset” placing them in a controlled rage not allowing fear to take over and control them.
Tactics should be simple and similar in movement from one another to work and remember. Women who were victims of violence all said the techniques they learned were too complicated to remember. When they were attacked they couldn’t even remember their names.
So regardless if you are dealing with an armed attacker, fighting on the ground or blocking a strike the tactics should be simple and remain similar in movement so you can remember them under the effects of adrenaline.
Focus should be placed on targets not techniques for it is impossible to follow a set pattern of pre-set movements. Violence is pure chaos and you must be able to improvise to be able to protect yourself. You need to focus on targeting tactics when hit cause an anatomic and domino type of response onto your attacker’s body.
Survivors of violence said their instincts took over and they responded to violence without any thought. That it was easier to focus on hitting certain targets regardless if it was hit with a body part or object then having time to think about complicated techniques to execute. They just thought hit this area as hard and as fast as they could and then escape.
This is just a small sample of what I found out through my research. All the answers to your self defense questions are revealed inside this one of a kind book.
This book will give you targeting tactics which are instinctive, simple and similar in movement from one another regardless if your face down or standing up with a gun at your head. I give you equalizing secrets that average women have easily used to even the odds against a threat twice their size. You will also learn how to overcome fear with a simple mental triggering exercise that everyday women have used to protect their children and themselves from a threat.
How to control fear so you’re not a victim of the flight/frozen response.
Learn one simple tactic that you can instantly learn right now that will stop any attacker dead in his tracks (this alone is worth the value of the book).
How you can transform anything around your immediate surroundings as a weapon so you always have an equalizer around you.
Learn a secret tactic that women have used to prevent a rape without even getting physical with an attacker.
Find out how to use your power of seduction to gain the upper hand in any potentially violent situation.
Try this test for size: This is how to properly open a door to prevent a forced entry. Whenever opening your door only open it slightly, the ball of your foot should be pressed snugly up against the door while the heel of your foot is firmly braced on the floor. This way even if the person at the door tries pushing the door inwards, your foot will act as a door jam preventing the person from forcing the door open.
Note: You must wear shoes so you have traction for this tactic to work.

Regardless of the persons size they will have a hard time entering due to the leverage caused by your foot. You now can force the door closed with your hands while keeping your foot in place. Lock the door and call 911. Another good idea is to have a self defense product an arm’s reach away from the entrance so when you do jam the door with your foot you can easily grab your weapon and use it on your intruder making it easier to close the door, and call for help.

I have had a chance to sit in on one of TSD’s fantastic seminars, and see first hand the impact this class has on its female students. If any of us, or our loved ones have ever been in a situation that could have possibly taken your life, you know what I mean!! This system is for you, your daughters, mothers, and girlfriends. I watched girls smaller than me (I stand only 5’5), take down men my husbands size who is over 6 foot in height and over 200 LBS, so it doesn’t matter if you’re fit, or strong. I promise you will take from the TSD, strategies that will work, and keep you safe when it comes to protecting yourself. As soon as my daughter is old enough to learn this stuff, I will send her to TSD. to learn how to protect herself.

Years of disappointment with traditional self defense systems. I thought there was no hope for me being petite (5″1 weighing 100 lbs) till I came across your amazing training system teaching the secrets of leverage. I now know I can protect myself from a bigger, stronger individual.

I don’t often recommend courses unless I feel absolutely strong about them. Well I ordered The Women’s Ultimate Streetwise Survival Guide and the first thought was it was going to be like all the other traditional information on women’s self defense on the market. I quickly realized it was not. It was the best $20 dollars I will ever spend.

The simplicity of your TSD is amazing and that’s why it works. You can’t remember 20 different things when you’re out on the street. You know that with your experience and considered every variable when creating the TSD System thank you so much.
